Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapies at Bodhi TCM in Melbourne FL
Chinese Medicine includes a range of therapeutic techniques that work together to support healing. While acupuncture is often the foundation, it is part of a broader system designed to address both symptoms and underlying patterns. Below is an overview of the traditional therapies we offer and how they may be incorporated into your care.
In this video, Dr. Andrea explains Chinese Medicine modalities
Fire Cupping
Fire cupping is a traditional therapy used to improve circulation, relieve muscle tension, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
During treatment, glass cups are briefly warmed to create suction and placed on the skin. The gentle negative pressure lifts the underlying tissue, increasing blood flow to the area.
Unlike massage, which applies downward pressure, cupping works by lifting the tissue. This can help release muscle tightness, improve mobility, and reduce pain related to restricted circulation.
Fire cupping may be recommended for:
• Neck and shoulder tension
• Back pain
• Sports recovery
• Muscle stiffness
• Headaches
• Early cold or respiratory symptoms
Temporary circular marks may appear after treatment. These are not bruises and typically fade within a few days.

Tui Na
Tui Na is a form of therapeutic bodywork used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The name means “push and grasp,” referring to the hands-on techniques used to stimulate circulation, release tension, and restore balance in the body.
Unlike relaxation massage, Tui Na is a structured clinical therapy. It uses specific techniques such as pressing, rolling, kneading, and stretching along acupuncture channels and muscle groups to address pain, restricted movement, and functional imbalances.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a therapeutic technique used to improve circulation and relieve muscle tension. It involves controlled scraping of the skin with a smooth instrument to stimulate blood flow in targeted areas.
At Bodhi, we use a custom jade Gua Sha tool selected for its smooth finish and precise design. While the therapeutic effect comes from the technique itself, the quality of the instrument allows for controlled, consistent application and enhanced comfort.

Benefits:
• Stimulates circulation in targeted areas
• Relieves muscle tension and soft tissue stiffness
• Supports healthy movement of connective tissue
Temporary redness or light bruising may appear after treatment. This is a normal response and typically fades within a few days.
Chinese Herbal Formulas
Chinese herbal medicine is a core component of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Herbal formulas may be recommended to complement acupuncture and extend therapeutic support between visits. They are selected based on your individual diagnosis, health history, and treatment goals.
Dr. Andrea is nationally board certified as a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine through the National Certification board for Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine (NCBAHM) and is licensed in the state of Florida as an Acupuncture Physician. This advanced training allows her to safely prescribe Chinese herbal formulas when clinically appropriate.
At Bodhi, we use Classical Pearls, high-quality herbal formulas sourced from trusted suppliers. Each formula is purity tested and produced under strict quality standards. Many are rooted in classical Chinese medical literature and refined to meet modern safety standards. Dr. Andrea has also trained with its founder, Dr. Heiner Fruehauf.
Lifestyle Guidance Based on Your Diagnosis
In Chinese Medicine, daily habits are considered part of the diagnosis. Sleep patterns, nutrition, stress levels, and activity all influence how the body regulates and heals.
Based on your specific diagnosis, Dr. Andrea will provide targeted lifestyle guidance to support your progress and help reduce the risk of recurrence in the future. These recommendations are tailored to your body’s current needs and may include adjustments to sleep timing, food choices, stress regulation, movement, or pacing.
When aligned with your treatment plan, these small, consistent changes can strengthen results and support long-term stability.
Guidance is practical and individualized, designed to reinforce progress without becoming overwhelming.

At Bodhi TCM therapies are selected based on your individual diagnosis and goals. Not every therapy is needed for every patient. Each is recommended when it will meaningfully support your progress and included as part of your care.
